Very superficial work changes the selection balance.

When the target lies close to the skin, near-field detail and probe footprint can matter more than maximum penetration. Higher-frequency configurations may support finer superficial visualization, while smaller footprints can improve controlled placement. The tradeoff is a narrower practical depth range and, depending on footprint, less anatomy visible in a single view.

Choose the frequency range around the actual target

Avoid selecting solely by the highest quoted frequency. Start with target depth, required field of view, contact area and the surrounding anatomy that must remain visible. Compare general, high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency linear options using the exact presets and mobile application intended for the service.

Check whether the smallest footprint is truly useful

A compact contact area can help with confined or highly localized anatomy, but a larger footprint may provide more orientation and scanning efficiency. Consider the examination technique, coupling, access and how the operator stabilizes the probe. Hands-on evaluation is more informative than a footprint number alone.

Use traceable clinical examples

Superficial imagery can appear visually impressive, which makes provenance especially important. Clinical examples should identify the probe configuration, mode, anatomy and relevant acquisition context and must be de-identified. Generated or generic representative images should never be presented as evidence produced by a specific probe.
